Date - September 9, 2023 at 2:00 pm
Location - Entrance to the Industrial Building Central Wyoming Fairgrounds Casper Wyoming
The sculpture ‘’6 MILES SOUTH’’ portrays a young girl with her horse and show lamb and was commissioned by Casper resident and retired teacher Helen Wolff. Helen grew up on a ranch 6 miles south of Lander Wyoming and some of her fondest memories were being in 4 H showing her livestock in the county fair. She asked artist Chris Navarro to create a monumental bronze sculpture to honor the 4- H agricultural youth programs in America. 4-H is a great organization whose mission is "engaging youth to reach their fullest potential while advancing the field of youth development. The 4-H emblem consists of a green, four-leaf, stemmed clover on a white background. The clover has a letter “H” on each leaf. The 4 H's stand for Head, Heart, Hands and Health.
‘’I was in the program as a youth showing horses and now, I get to honor the institution with my art. Things in life have a way of becoming a full circle.’’ – Chris Navarro
Renowned Wyoming artist Chris Navarro is respected for his visual story-telling abilities and connection to western culture. Navarro’s latest commission will be his 16th outdoor monumental sculpture placed in Casper, Wyoming.
